5 Things to Do After You Get Engaged

July 31, 2025

Congratulations—you said yes! Whether it was a surprise proposal or a long-anticipated moment, this marks the beginning of such a joyful and meaningful season in your life.

Whether you’ve been dreaming of this moment forever or it took you completely by surprise—a sunset proposal in the park, a quiet question over coffee—you’re likely feeling a mix of excitement, joy, and maybe even a little overwhelm. That’s totally normal! You don’t have to do everything at once. Take a deep breath…then begin with a few intentional, grounding steps that will set the tone for a calm and confident planning experience.

1. Celebrate Together

Before diving into planning mode, take a moment to just be in this new chapter. Call your closest people, pop the champagne, or savor a cozy dinner together. The best plans start from a place of connection.

2. Get Clear on Your Priorities

Spend time talking about what matters most to you both. Is it an intimate gathering or a grand celebration? Do you envision a particular season, setting, or vibe? This helps shape every decision moving forward.

3. Talk Budget Early

It might not feel romantic, but setting expectations early can prevent future stress. Whether it’s just the two of you contributing or family members as well, get a sense of what your overall investment will look like.

4. Draft Your Guest List

You don’t need a final count yet, but knowing if you’re envisioning 50 or 150 guests will help with venue searches and budget planning. Think about your must-haves, nice-to-haves, and non-negotiables.

5. Hire a Wedding Planner

Even if you’re not ready to make big decisions yet, having a planner on board early is invaluable. We help guide the process from the very beginning, saving you time, energy, and overwhelm.

The engagement season is a beautiful one—you don’t need to rush through it. With thoughtful steps and the right support, you can enjoy the journey as much as the day itself. If you’re newly engaged and want a planning partner who will bring clarity, calm, and creativity to your wedding experience, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
